Queensryche's co-founder and principal songwriter through the band's peak, and the warmer half of a twin-guitar partnership with Michael Wilton that ran on identical rigs until 1990. On Operation: Mindcrime both players used Marshall JCM800 100-watt heads into Vintage 30-loaded 4x12s, plus small custom 1x12 cabinets they pushed so hard that three of them failed during the sessions. DeGarmo's playing is the melodic counterweight to Wilton's brighter, more aggressive attack -- he takes the main solo on 'Eyes of a Stranger' and harmonises its second half with Wilton. He left the band in 1997 and has largely stayed out of music since.
