"Fast" Eddie Clarke

Motorhead's guitarist across the run that made them, from 1977's debut through 1982's Iron Fist -- the player who had to find a way to be heard next to Lemmy's Rickenbacker. His solution shaped the band: he set his beloved 1972 Les Paul Deluxe aside and played a Stratocaster loaded with DiMarzio pickups because he needed something sharp enough to cut through a bass rig running all treble and no bass. What came out was Chuck Berry played at punk velocity through a cranked Marshall, and it became the template for a decade of thrash. He formed Fastway after leaving in 1982, and was the last of the classic trio to die, in January 2018.
