B.B. King's 'Lucille' is an ES-355 with the f-holes filled to reduce feedback at high volume. Lighter strings (.010 gauge) for easy bending. The neck pickup provides the warm, round tone that is King's signature.

B.B. King used no effects pedals. His entire sound comes from his fingers, his vibrato, and his bending technique. The 'butterfly vibrato' — a rapid, wide vibrato achieved by shaking the entire hand — is the most recognizable element of his tone. He also never played chords; every note was a single-line melody.
