Slipknot's #4 (and Stone Sour guitarist), Root joined for the self-titled debut and became the band's other half of the guitar wall alongside Mick Thomson. On Vol. 3 he tracked the bulk of the record through a Reinhold Bogner-modded Uberschall — 'an Uberschall on steroids' — and later moved to Orange Rockerverb heads blended with a Diezel Herbert. His Fender Jim Root signature guitars run EMG 81/60 actives in a starkly minimal, single-pickup-feel layout.
