Luther Perkins
Guitarist for Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Two/Three from 1955 until his death in 1968. Perkins invented the 'boom-chicka-boom' — a stark, palm-muted Fender Esquire figure that became the rhythmic spine of Cash's early Sun recordings, from 'Folsom Prison Blues' to 'I Walk the Line.' His deliberately simple, percussive style proved that restraint could be as iconic as virtuosity.
