Player No. 113progressive-metal

Tosin Abasi

Founder and lead guitarist of Animals as Leaders, and the player who moved the eight-string guitar out of novelty territory and into a working instrument. The 2009 self-titled debut was recorded on an Ibanez RG2228 -- the first mass-produced eight-string -- with Abasi playing every guitar and bass part and Misha Mansoor engineering, programming drums and mixing. His vocabulary draws as much from thumb-slapping and two-hand tapping as from conventional picking, which is why the parts sit so oddly on a fretboard built for riffing.

Why V30s Sound Fatiguing in Modern Djent (and Three Speakers That Don't)

The Celestion V30 became the default high-gain speaker for a reason, but that reason was 1990s metal, not 2026 djent. The presence peak that defined the V30 sound stacks with modern preamp EQ in ways that exhaust the ear after twenty minutes. Here is what's happening, and three speakers that solve it.
