Jambi pairs one of Tool's most muscular Drop-D riffs with a mid-song talk-box solo — Jones ran his amp through a Heil Talk Box, the same trick Joe Walsh and Peter Frampton made famous, to make the guitar 'speak.' He cut it on his 1979 Les Paul Custom Silverburst into a three-head wall: a 1976 Marshall Super Bass, a Diezel VH4, and a Rivera Knucklehead, each into its own 4x12. The rhythm track is kept bone-dry so the riff stays tight and articulate; the talk box is the one signature effect, reserved for the solo.
