Freak on a Leash

The song that broke Korn into the mainstream — a creeping low-A riff, the scat 'boom-na-da' vocal break, then the heavy slam. Munky and Head ran modified Ibanez Universe 7-strings (the K7 signature didn't arrive until 2001) into Mesa/Boogie Rectifiers, tuned to A-standard (A-D-G-C-F-A-D), with maxed bass and mids scooped near zero for the cavernous, percussive chug. From Follow the Leader (1998), tracked at NRG Recording and mixed by Brendan O'Brien.
